Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists Surgeon Performs First Anatomic Total Shoulder Replacement at Orthopaedic Specialists Surgi-Center

NEWARK, DEDelaware Orthopaedic Specialists is proud to announce a significant milestone in outpatient surgical care. Dr. Douglas A. Palma, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, successfully performed the first anatomic total shoulder replacement at the Orthopaedic Specialists Surgi-Center (OSSC) in Newark, DE.

The procedure utilized the Arthrex Eclipse™ Stemless Total Shoulder System, a bone-preserving technology designed to restore natural motion while minimizing the physical impact of the surgery. Unlike traditional shoulder replacements that require a long metal stem to be inserted into the humerus (arm bone), the stemless design allows for a less invasive approach, preservation of the patient's natural bone stock, and potentially faster recovery times.

The transition of total joint replacements to the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting reflects a growing trend in orthopedics, offering patients a more streamlined, comfortable, and cost-effective alternative to traditional hospital stays.
