Dr. Shah's Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Do I need joint replacement surgery?

Not always. I recommend surgery only after non-surgical treatments—such as medications, physical therapy, injections, and activity modification—are no longer providing adequate relief. Together, we'll determine the best treatment based on your symptoms, imaging, and personal goals.

Q:  Am I a candidate for robotic-assisted joint replacement?

Many patients are candidates for robotic-assisted hip or knee replacement. During your consultation, we'll discuss whether robotic technology is appropriate for your condition and how it may improve surgical precision and recovery.

Q:  How long does recovery take after hip or knee replacement?

Recovery varies by patient, but most people begin walking the day of surgery and experience steady improvement over the following weeks. Your recovery plan will be personalized to help you safely return to your normal activities as quickly as possible.

Q:  Will I need to stay overnight in the hospital?

Many patients are able to return home the same day as surgery, while others may benefit from an overnight stay depending on their medical history, support at home, and the type of procedure performed.

Q:  When should I consider a partial knee replacement instead of a total knee replacement?

If arthritis is limited to one part of the knee, a partial knee replacement may be an excellent option. During your evaluation, I'll determine whether you're a candidate and discuss the advantages and limitations of both partial and total knee replacement.
