Our History

Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists is a combination of two practices with similar ideas towards specialty care that joined together in 2008. Orthopaedic Specialists a 6 man group, joined Delaware Orthopaedic Center a 5 man group, and below is a brief history of that merger:

With both groups strong desire to care for our community, Delaware Orthopaedic Center’s managing partner, Dr. Galinat and Orthopaedic specialists managing partner, Dr. Patterson met at Cromwell’s in late 2006. The topic: merger of the two groups. Both groups had a similar focus on providing quality orthopaedic care to our community. Both groups consisted of fellowship-trained surgeons. Over several meetings and despite some 11th hour hiccups, the groups merged in 2008. In 2010, the merger was formalized, the back offices were combined and the consolidated group of DOS became public.

The combination of our groups’ names resulted in the creation of Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists (DOS). With the combined strengths of the two groups, momentum grew. DOS purchased the Brandywine Medical Center in 2010, we then purchased our Middletown office and put in a state of the art MRI imaging center in 2018. We opened our Metro office in 2019, opened 3 Occupational Therapy locations in 2020 and purchased 1082 Old Churchmans Road in 2021. All of this growth happened while bringing on 15 talented, fellowship-trained physicians.

As you can see, delivering specialized care right here in Delaware resonated with the community and our practice continued to grow. We cover the lion share of ER call in New Castle County and provide medical coverage to most of the local high school, college and professional teams.

Despite all of the challenges 2020 threw our way, DOS kept caring for our community. And we’re just getting a full head of steam. 13 years and countless patients later, we're all still working towards a common goal...having a role in the formation, nurturing and growth of DOS -- physician partners, delivering the best care possible in their specialized field.

You won't find another Orthopaedic practice like ours in Delaware. We pride ourselves on being fellowship trained in every area of the body we cover and only practicing in that specialty. And we don't plan on changing.

Specialty care matters. Thank you for trusting your care to our specialists.
